Tips and Tricks - Drawing

Drawing lines easily with Direct Distance Entry (All Versions) - To use DDE to draw a line, you use your mouse as a pointing device and your keyboard as a distance device. Start the line command and pick a point. Next, pull your cursor in the direction you would like to draw the line. At the command line type just the distance (i.e. 20) and hit enter. The line has now been drawn the distance and direction you specified.
TIP: Use ORTHO to keep your lines at a set angle.
TIP: This option can also be used to move or edit objects.
TIP: For odd angles, rotate your snap angle.(SNAPANG)

Drawing an Exact Rectangle - To draw an exact rectangle, first select a starting point. For the second point, type @x,y. Whereas "x" is the horizontal length and "y" is the vertical length.

Creating Polylines of any closed space with a single click - To create a polyline of a closed space, use the BPOLY command (Boundary Command). This command works similar to the hatch command, but creates a polyline instead of hatch.

Quick Area Calculations - Use the command above to create a polyline. Then, use the AREA command to list the area of the selected polyline.

Quick precise layouts in minutes - Explore the XLINE command. Besides creating basic construction lines, it also will create construction lines at precise angles, offset existing construction lines, and bisect angles on the fly.

Curved Leaders can be created with the SPLINE option under the leader command. To access splined leaders, you will be prompted for options after you select the second point of your leader line. Select FORMAT, SPLINE. This creates a splined leader that can be edited with the grips command.

Linear Dimensions by Selection can be achieved by hitting a return when AutoCAD prompts you for the "First extension line origin". At this point AutoCAD will ask you to select the line to be dimensioned. Just select a line and place the dimension.
